Greek Television

Greek TV is quite flexible and diverse, with the Greek Broadcasting Corporation (ERT SA) consisting of three main state channels (ERT1, ERT2 and ERT3) plus many other independent channels that meet the needs of the Greek public. Despite recent events with the closing of the Greek Radio and Television because of economic problems, ERT is back online and its popularity seems to have increased even more. Additionally, there is the Canal HOUSE, which transmits the meetings of Greek Parliament.

Greek TV has numerous independent TV stations too.  MEGA TV is the oldest, founded in 1989 and is free to view.  It offers news and entertainment, movies and television series. There is also ANT1 TV is which has been in operation since 1989. The SKAI TV channel launched in 1993 as predominantly a news channel. However, in recent years, it has expanded its target audience and now offers a more complete entertainment solution (though News is still the SKAI trademark).

STAR TV is a channel that focuses mainly on entertainment and showbiz gossip and is targeted mainly at younger age groups. O TV ALPHA is another channel, operating since 1993 and aims to inform, but also provides plenty of entertainment.

These are only some of the most popular Greek TV channels.
